Gwinganna is a new house saddled on a rock platform with spectacular views east and west. Designed as two lineal pavilions separated by a communal courtyard and linked by a glass breezeway. The eastern street-facing pavilion nestles into the gums and houses the sleeping quarters - quiet and private. The western pavilion opens to expansive views over Gadigal National Park - the entertaining space with generous kitchen, dining, living and outdoor entertaining areas. We were careful with the site: minimal excavation, minimal tree loss, working with the existing landscaped typography. Rammed earth base grounds the pavilions, dark aluminium cladding on the first floor to recess into the tree canopy.
